Ludlow Bunting Trail
We’ve finished our Working Together bunting and handed it over to the Ludlow Fringe Festival. We can’t wait to see what it looks like when it is displayed around Ludlow.
Hopefully, we’ll be able to tell you where abouts you can look to see it soon.
All those involved, at WT and at the Fringe, think members have done a brilliant job!
We’ve just heard that our Working Together bunting is being displayed at the Millennium Green as part of the Ludlow Fringe. There’s a great video that’s been shared on their Facebook page… https://www.facebook.com/LudlowFringe/
Youth Club Barbeque Session 1…
This Tuesday we held our first summer event – a mini-barbeque at Rocksping.
We usually hold a couple of special events in the summer – as there aren’t any weekly activity sessions during the school holidays – but this year, because of Covid restrictions, we have had to make some different plans.
As big groups aren’t allowed at the moment, we’ve decided to hold a number of small group barbeques at Rockspring – with just a few members attending each event. This way, everyone gets to come to a barbeque and to meet up with a few friends – in a Covid Safe way.
A big thank you to Di, our barbeque Queen, for providing all of the equipment and doing the cooking – with loads of support from Sammy and Jan and the members too – the food was delicious.
Everyone agreed how good it was to be back at Rockspring and catching up with old friends.
Some of us have found the lockdown period really difficult and boring while some of us have enjoyed the slower pace and the familiarity of home and family.
We shared experiences of lockdown hair cuts, favourite comedies that have taken our mind off the news and how we have, perhaps, not done as much active things as usual.
Everyone’s experience has been different but we’re all enjoying getting back together at last!
Making vegi and fruit skewers:
Joe showed his knowledge of food prep and food hygiene as he effortlessly created colourful and healthy veg skewers. Joe is looking forward to progressing his knowledge and skills in catering at college in Shrewsbury in September.
Alex created a fruity skewer then Dan shared how it reminded him of the leaning Tower of Pisa.
On hot days there’s no better way to finish off the fun than practising our action shots with wet sponges!
Last week, the phone rang at Working Together. “Would we like a plastic greenhouse to grow tomatoes in?” Of course, we said a big “yes please!”
When the greenhouse was delivered we knew just the person to help us put it all together – Tim.
Tim did a great job with some help from Emily, James and the instructions. We were also really pleased to have some plants donated, just waiting for an ideal home to help them grow.
Thanks to Marilyn Gaunt for the greenhouse. We’re looking forward to tasting some of the tomatoes as soon as they are ripe.
Your chance to get involved…
We’ve got some exciting news to share…….
One of the great benefits of Working Together has always been the extra activities that run alongside our daily and weekly programmes.
Writers Club and Sewing Bee are just two of these! During lockdown we offered various activities on line and by phone to make sure everyone had the opportunity to keep involved in one way or another.
Now that some of our members are back at Rockspring we are working hard to see whether we can develop sessions that will provide online/remote involvement for those that can’t join us alongside the face-to-face opportunities at Rockspring.
Monday Makers’ Club
Makers’ Club is a new offer that will be a combination of sewing bee, arts and crafts. Louise has kindly offered to run sessions at Rockspring on Monday afternoons. Whilst we can only accommodate a few members in the building we’re hoping to be able to offer this as a joint online session too – with the opportunity to ‘Zoom in’ for the Club. For those not able to join us on the day, we can send out activity packs and schedule remote support to members with their projects at home.
Tuesday Yoga Club
As mentioned in the last newsletter, Nicola Bradbury has joined us at Rockspring on a Tuesday afternoon to teach mindfulness and yoga.
Whilst the afternoon session is already full, Nicola has kindly agreed to lead Tuesday morning sessions too – for up to four members in a socially
distanced face-to-face session and also for anyone who wants to join in from home on Zoom too!
Wednesday Writers’ Club
Writers’ Club is back – well never really stopped as Sarah and the team have all been working together online to produce some great writing, like ‘Out of the Dragon’s Lair’ shared last week of course.
As with Makers’ Club, we can only accommodate a few members here at Rockspring, so we are looking at being able to offer this as an online
session too – with the opportunity to Zoom in and take part. Those not able to join us on the day can be sent a Writers’ Club pack, followed up by calls and support to members with their writing at home.
If you think you might be interested in getting involved in any of these new opportunities please get in touch, either by emailing
email@example.com or calling 07896 415643 for a chat?
The BIG Summer Tidy
Now the doors are open once again at Rockspring, we’ve made the most of the opportunity to get on with some jobs that we couldn’t do because of the lockdown.
Our members have been working really hard this week with paint brushes in hand to finish the outside fence…
We’ve also been outside and had a litter pick to clear away some of the rubbish that has gathered around the centre whilst it has been closed.
As well as the work to tidy the Rockspring garden, the Church has mowed the lawns at the front and it’s all looking very smart.
