Community Garden visit…
Last week we had a very special visitor at Working Together who came to talk to us about gardening….
Chris Evans is a specialist trainer and advisor at the Himalayan Permaculture Centre. Chris has taught permaculture in the UK, Europe, Nepal, India, U.S.A. and Mexico and so we were keen to hear his ideas on how Working Together can best use our space in the community garden and the other green spaces that we have around the Rockspring Centre.
Chris explained how we could think about gardening in a sustainable way, using the resources and skills that we have wisely and that these ideas aren’t just about gardening but include establishing connections with nature and with the wider community.
It was great to hear Chris’s ideas of how the garden can ‘meets its own needs for growth and maintenance’ and how we can produce a surplus for use in the café and also for sharing with others.
Chris gave us lots of ideas and advice on thinking about where to start and we hope to invite him back to help us put some of this into practice in 2021. Thanks Chris — you can find out more about permaculture
